About

I am primarily a leadership and governance consultant and coach focused on best practices in leadership and management. I also offer a variety of professional services. Currently located on beautiful Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

I'm passionate about leadership and governance and have always been a strong advocate for and passionate about continuous learning and professional development; equity, diversity, and inclusion; increasing efficiency; positive change management; and strategic planning.

With over two decades (okay, maybe closer to three) of progressive accounting and administrative experience in private and non-profit sectors in multiple provinces, there are very few situations, personalities, and roles that I haven't encountered. Yet, every single day I learn something new.

I supported some of the most wonderful senior and executive leaders and served on many interesting councils and committees in professional and volunteer capacities. I recruited and managed my own teams for several years. I also supported and managed many aspects of restructuring and strategic and business continuity planning.

Over the years, I've taken many courses to complement my professional experience. Course subjects included but were not limited to political science, history, geology, Indigenous studies, economics, marketing, labour relations, and not surprisingly leadership and governance. I've completed training on income tax preparation, project management, freedom of information and protection of privacy, effective communication, and change and resiliency. I'm always seeking opportunities to refresh, update, or upgrade my knowledge and skills.

I believe in leading teams from a values-based approach. Every business or organization has a set of core values that guides it. Leaders and their teams are guided by personal and professional values. Identifying and aligning shared values often results in increased productivity, authenticity, integrity, and trust within and outside the organization. This contributes to a positive work environment and retention of valuable employees.

So many managers, owners, and leaders are new to their roles and know very little about best practices in leadership. Many seasoned managers, owners, and leaders still have much to learn. Leadership practices have changed significantly based on research. Yet, we still encounter leaders focused on hierarchy, that don't value or practice transparent communication, don't engage in staff recognition, and don't provide information or support.

My goal is to provide support and guidance to foster positive, healthier, more inclusive work cultures, interactions, and leadership practices which lead to increased efficiency and retention, as well as increased prosperity for the organization.

Sincerely,

M.E.G.
